Take Down Policy

Overview

East Sussex and Brighton and Hove Record Office (ESBHRO) are committed to making our collections readily available to customers, both onsite and online.

This policy outlines how and why publicly available records, and their metadata, may need to be closed to further public access or taken down from this website.

The policy does not apply to records already closed to public access under Data Protection or Freedom of Information legislation.

Process

If you would like to request that records are re-closed or taken down from this website, please contact us:

  • by email, [email protected]
  • or by post, ESBHRO Archivist, The Keep, Woollards Way, Brighton, BN1 9BP.

In this email or letter, please including the following:

  • Your full name and contact details
  • Details of the records, including their catalogue reference number if you have it
  • If the request is copyright related, please also include proof that you are the rights holder of the records

Once a request has been received, we will temporarily withdraw the material from public access until we review the request. Requests will be considered, and a written response provided within 30 working days of receiving the request. The reasons behind the decision made will be made clear.

At the end of this process, the material will either be reopened/made available, or continue to be closed for access.

If you would like to see the full list of criteria for reclosure or takedown of records, or for advice on takedown or reclosure of records, please contact us using the details listed above.
